Dr. Heckle and Mr. Jive (Big Tree 1979)

     England Dan & John Ford Coley fanno le cose in grande per il nuovo ed ultimo album, chiamando a collaborare il fior fiore dei musicisti californiani e cercando di avvicinarsi al raffinato sound di L.A. Non tutto però riesce alla perfezione ed il disco, pur contenendo alcuni buoni episodi, non arriva ad essere quell'ottimo prodotto che gli stessi artisti speravano di costruire. Musicalmente é più ricco dei lavori precedenti, con una buona alternanza di ballate e pezzi ritmati, ma a livello compositivo sono pochi i brani che brillano per qualità ed originalità. Tra questi da segnalare la movimentata "Hollywood Heckle and Jive", i due notevoli medio-tempo di "What can I do with this broken heart" e "Caught up in the middle" e forse "Broken hearted me", uno slow scritto da Randy Goodrum, carino ma abbastanza scontato. Alla fine il pezzo migliore dell'album si rivela la cover di "Love is the answer", straordinaria composizione di Todd Rundgren ben arrangiata ed interpretata.
