Blame It On The Night (Mercury 1979)

     Robert Byrne, con questo lavoro, scrive una della migliori pagine della musica west coast, dando alle stampe un album fenomenale. Non fatevi ingannare dal primo brano del disco, un pezzo funky abbastanza tirato, che non rappresenta assolutamente quello che sarà l'andamento musicale successivo, cioè un sofisticato pop californiano, morbido ed elegante, su cui svetta la coinvolgente voce dell'artista. I brani si susseguono in splendida continuità, tra la stupenda "That didn't hurt too bad" e, nello stile del migliore Michael McDonald, la perfetta "Pretend he's me". E' impossibile poi non citare la dolcissima "Blame it on the night", a mio parere, una delle migliori ballate westcoastiane di sempre. Il disco é perciò assolutamente da possedere per chi ama un intrattenimento musicale di lusso ma il vinile é di difficile reperibilità mentre il cd esiste solo di stampa giapponese.
     West coast pop ai massimi livelli.
