La
lista seguente cerca di elencare in modo esauriente quelli che sono i principali artisti
west coast. Attenzione però, il termine west coast può risultare fuorviante perché non
tutti questi nomi sono nati o cresciuti musicalmente nella zona di Los Angeles, alcuni
sono di New York, o della Florida, o del Canada, o addiritura vengono dalla vecchia
Europa.
Possiamo perciò trovare autori di estrazione musicale diversa,
con generi che vanno dal country rock (Eagles), al pop (Cristopher
Cross), al soul (Brenda Russell), al funky (Earth, Wind & Fire) e alla musica fusion (Lee Ritenour),
ma tutti con il comune denominatore di un suono tipico degli anni '70, un suono
sofisticato creato da musicisti e produttori dell'area californiana, nomi che ritroviamo
in quasi tutti i dischi in questione. Si può perciò dire che il termine west coast lo
usiamo, forse anche impropriamente, per definire un certo tipo di musica, che
originariamente appartiene ad una determinata area geografica, ma che poi si é sviluppata
in modo ed in realtà diverse.
Di ogni artista presente nella lista verrà inserita una piccola
biografia, la discografia, e verrà poi dedicata una scheda agli album più
rappresentativi, cercando di ampliare sempre più i lavori recensiti ed il numero degli
artisti elencati.
